10/27-Lisa Lillien(Hungry Girl), Jennifer Wilde

Lisa Lillien-Hungry Girl

With Halloween, Thanksgiving and winter festivities just around the corner, the rich desserts and hearty family meals that accompany the holiday season are every dieter’s nightmare. The holidays have bad reputation for sabotaging health-conscious meal planning, but simple tips can turn festive feasts into guilt-free get-togethers.

Experts agree that eating small meals throughout the day helps curb hunger, keeps energy levels high and prevents potential pig-outs during breakfast, lunch and dinner. This portion controlled snacking will help keep everything in check.

“I look for treats like guilt-free cheese that can be incorporated into a variety of snacks from dips and spreads to fruit and vegetable pairings,” says Lisa Lilllien, Hungry Girl.  “You can easily transform an ordinary snack into a satisfying taste sensation.”

Some other smart snack options include:
·         Low-fat yogurt sprinkled with granola
·         Whole wheat pretzels with spicy mustard
·         Apple topped with light cheese slices
·         Carrot sticks with a small scoop of hummus

Talk to Lisa Lillien about satisfying snacks and healthy hints for eating right during the holiday season. Lisa (aka Hungry Girl) is a New York Times bestselling author and the creator of the Hungry Girl brand. She is the founder of hungry-girl.com, the free daily email service sent to more than 1,000,000 people. Lisa also reaches millions more with weekly columns on WeightWatchers.com and Yahoo!, regular contributions to Redbook magazine and recurring appearances on the television shows like Rachael Ray and Extra. Lisa recently wrapped production for her new Hungry Girl television show, set to debut in January 2011 on the Cooking Channel.

Jennifer Wilde-Former Party Girl

Jennifer Wilde hit Hollywood when she was still a teenager, and she was hell-bent to live up to her name.

Graduating from marijuana to cocaine, her appetite for the high life was huge, and a burgeoning life as a model and actress only poured fuel on the flames of self-destruction.

“I went to Hollywood when I was a kid, and I met all these stars, producers and directors, and all I saw was the glitz and the glamour,” said Wilde, author of the memoir From Life in the Hollywood Fast Lane to the Untouchables of India (www.hollywoodfastlane.com). “I ignored all the obvious warning signs that this was a town and a life that could eat a person alive. I’m lucky to have made it through unscathed, but so many of the people I met did not.”

Her life in the fast lane started in New York, where she began as a fashion model. While that experience wasn’t her introduction to drugs, it certainly solidified their place in her life. When she had the chance to go to Hollywood, she jumped at it, and made a lot of strong connections. She took acting classes and met a wide array of respected producers and directors, many of whom reminded her that the casting couch mentality was still alive and well in Tinseltown.

“I was one of the lucky ones,” she said. “While I wasn’t exactly a prude -- I dated a lot and had a lot of sex with guys who were not exactly husband material -- I never crossed the line into trading sex for roles in movies. I knew a lot of girls who did, and who never became stars. They were just used and then discarded like trash. I also met some really great people. I dated Robert Carradine for a while, and he was always very good to me. I also became friends with Richard Donner, the director of the Lethal Weapon movies and Superman, but he was always a gentleman. We never dated, and he never played the casting couch game. He was just a nice man who liked treating people well. If there were more like him, Hollywood might be a difference place, but he was the exception -- not the rule.”

As for the party life, Wilde’s advice for the girls who live it, as well as the girls who want to live it, is to focus on the things in life that really matter.

“But the real evil isn’t on the streets -- it’s inside yourself. Being self-centered and focusing only on yourself is the bigger evil. When you have money in your pocket, a limitless supply of drugs and friends who are happy to spend time with you (as long as you’re buying or have a cool place to live), it feels like it will last forever, but it never truly carries you that far. At some point, you have to shift your focus to things that matter -- family, friends, your own spirituality and those who love you for who you are, and not what you can do for them.”

About Jennifer Wilde

Jennifer Wilde is a former actress, model and Hollywood party girl who escaped that lifestyle to focus on her two daughters, her family, her spirituality and how she can use her life to help others.

Her advice for Lindsay, Paris and some of the other celebs who make the fast lane attractive to millions of young girls who grow up wanting fame and fortune is to grow up and focus on something other than their own immediate gratification.

Gwenn Schurgin O’Keeffe-Spokesperson for the National Academy of Pediatric

Is your family’s Halloween holiday an “all-they-can-eat treat feast?”  Of course you want your kids to eat healthy, but you don’t want the label of Halloween Scrooge.  So how can you make sure your kids enjoy the holiday, without overloading on nutrient-void sweets?

While sweets are at the heart of Halloween fun, Pediatrician Dr. Gwenn Schurgin O’Keeffe says there are ways for parents to make the holiday a little more nutritious without being booed by the kids.

Getting kids to give up the sweet stuff doesn’t have to be a frightening proposition.  Dr. Gwenn will be available for interviews on October 26, 2010, to talk about finding a happy medium when it comes to holiday sweets – sharing hauntingly healthy Halloween tips, festive recipes and spooktacular safety tactics so everyone has a happy and healthy Halloween.

     Creative Treats: From stickers to temporary tattoos, have fun with other fillers
     Treat Trade-off: Instead of sugary sodas, offer lowfat chocolate milk – a nutritious treat in disguise and the “Official Drink of Halloween”
     Spooktacular Safety: Examine all treats before you give them to the kids
     Tricks for Nutritious Treats: Kid-friendly treats that taste great - and are also good for them

Lorena completed her law studies in Santa Maria University in Caracas, and moved to the United States to complete her Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies. Making her dream to become a chef a reality, Lorena traded her law papers for a cutting board and chef’s knife to study culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University.

Inspired by her education and burgeoning creativity, Lorena set out on a world tour of countries known for great cuisine. She worked as an apprentice chef in France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and China and worked in famed restaurants alongside world-renowned chefs such as Pascal Audin. Her next step was to establish Food Café, and later Elements Tierra, two successful restaurants in Miami’s Design District that featured menus defined by an eclectic blend of Latin and Asian-inspired dishes, later sold in 2008.

Lorena’s charismatic personality and contagious enthusiasm have helped her secure numerous roles as host on nationally syndicated shows including Vida Gourmet on the Gems network; Co/cine Mun2, Mun2 network;El Arte del Buen Gusto, MGM Casa Club TV; Sazón, Univision Radio; and currently Sazón con Lorena Garcia on Utilisima. Recently, Lorena was featured in CNN’s “Latinos In America”, broadcast globally to millions of viewers. Later this year Lorena will be featured as a guest on NBC's "The Biggest Loser". During Spring, 2011 Lorena will be a series regular and one of the investors on NBC's new reality competition series "Americas Next Great Restaurant".

Lorena’s dynamic appeal has also been recognized by global brands. Moving into her third year as a Nestlé spokesperson, Lorena appears on Cocinando con Nestlé, a weekly segment on the Univision morning show, Despierta America, where she prepares popular and traditional dishes from Latin America. Every year Lorena showcases her culinary talents on behalf of Nestlé brands during a multi-city North American tour of Latin street festivals and fairs.

Lorena has taken on the challenge of combating childhood obesity. She developed "Big Chef, Little Chef" as a comprehensive program to help kids and their families take control of their eating habits and ultimately, their lives. More than simply promoting healthy eating, it is a lifestyle modification plan that educates children of all ages and their families about the benefits of nutrition and of living a healthy, happy, and positive life.

Scheduled to open in Fall 2010 is the first Lorena Garcia Cocina Restaurant located at the Miami International Airport where Lorena teams up with HMS Host Marriot Services to provide travelers a healthier alternative to Latin cuisine. In 1991, he decided to leave his lucrative career as a Wall Street stockbroker in order to follow his dream of becoming a chef. He started in his culinary career as a dishwasher. Over time, he apprenticed with the best chefs in America. "I was in heaven working my way up the restaurant line," says Nick. "But I wanted to share my enthusiasm for Italian cooking with more people. I decided a cooking show was the answer." Employing the energy, dedication and entrepreneurial vision that had taken him from Palermo to Wall Street, Nick began calling television production companies. His efforts culminated in the highly successful series Nick Stellino Cooking with Friends, Cucina Amore I, II and III, Nick Stellino's Family Kitchen I, II, III, IV and V, and the PBS specials, Nick Stellino's Dinner Party and Nick Stellino: Food, Love & Family.
