Swimming is by far the most popular summertime activity, according to a March 2010 survey by the American Red Cross. In an effort to reduce child drowning, non-fatal submersions and entrapments in pools and spas, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has launched the federal government’s first-ever national campaign on pool safety – Pool Safely: Simple Steps Save Lives. Part of the education effort includes a new series of PSAs debuting at the end of June that are designed to help parents and caregivers prevent these terrible incidents. Inez Moore Tenenbaum was confirmed as the ninth Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission by the Senate on June 19, 2009 and sworn into office on June 23, 2009. She was elected South Carolina's State Superintendent of Education in 1998 and completed her second term in 2007. Throughout her career, Ms. Tenenbaum has been an energetic and determined advocate for children and families and has extensive experience in administrative and regulatory matters.

DOUGLAS BRODE is a screenwriter, playwright, novelist, film historian, and multi-award winning journalist. Born and raised on Long Island, he traveled upstate to attend SUNY Geneseo as an undergrad and never really left. After graduate work in Shakespearean studies at Syracuse University, he and his wife Sue (Johnson) Brode stayed on and raised a family. Brode became the coordinator of the Cinema Studies program at Onondaga College and then an adjunct professor at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications. He is the author of over 30 books on film and the mass media including Films Of The Fifties, Films Of Steven Spielberg, Denzel Washington (a biography), Sinema (Erotic Films), Shakespeare In The Movies (for Oxford University Press), two books on Walt Disney for University of Texas Press, From Walt To Woodstock and Multiculturalism and the mouse.
Shirley Bovshow - Home and Garden TV Expert
Shirley Bovshow is an in-demand landscape designer in Los Angeles and the designer/co-host of the television show, “Garden Police” airing on the Discovery Home Channel. Shirley appears regularly on NBC's "iVillage Live" show as their garden and outdoor living expert and on HGTV as a guest designer on the national cable show, “Outer Spaces" and the upcoming HGTV special, "25 Biggest Landscape Blunders" slated to air in late 2007. She has also contributed to USA Network's “Ready for the Weekend Movie” (aired with Blue Crush and aired with GoldenEye). A dynamic garden communicator and blogger, Shirley is a popular speaker at consumer home and garden shows and writes "Eden-Makers Blog" featured in GardenWeb.com. Shirley’s garden design business, Shirley Bovshow Garden Design and Décor, expanded quickly after neighbors and strangers took note of her unique handcrafted gardens and began to request her services. Self-motivated and contagiously optimistic, the long-time gardening hobbyist saw an opportunity to start her own business doing what she loved most, so she became certified in Landscape and Nursery Practices and opened her doors in 1999. Requests for Shirley's designs took off quickly and she now has a long list of satisfied and loyal clients. Shirley is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and has served as the public relations representative for the organization’s Southern California chapter. She is a member of the Garden Writers Association, California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers and is the owner of the unique online store Eden Maker Décor. Shirley is writing a book series entitled “Eden Makers” which expands on her philosophy of today’s homemakers and the desire to create "Paradise at home." Prior to entering garden design, Shirley enjoyed a successful career in public relations and real estate. Shirley in a native of Los Angeles and is married to Larry Bovshow and has four children. Of all her accomplishments, Shirley is most proud of her close family relationship.
