Rick Harrison - The “King of Pawning” and One of History’s “Pawn Stars”
Offers a Glimpse Into the World of Pawn, Its History and Its Relevance Today
Pawnbroking can be traced back at least 3,000 years to ancient China, and has been found in the earliest written histories of Greek and Roman civilizations. In fact, Queen Isabella of Spain pawned the crown jewels to finance Columbus' voyage to America. It’s one of the oldest forms of banking, and until the 1950s, it was the leading form of consumer credit in the U.S. When hard times hit and financial institutions are not as willing to lend, the popularity of pawnshops traditionally rises, especially for small sums of money. Enter Rick Harrison a member of the only family-run pawnshop in Las Vegas, where three generations of men from the Harrison family – grandfather, father and son – run the business together. This family lives and breaths the pawn business. Using their sharp-eyed skills they carefully assess the value of items their colorful customers bring in -- ranging from the obscure to the truly historic. Everything and everyone has a story and it’s Rick’s job to decipher fact from fiction, because in the pawn business the customer isn’t always right. And in Las Vegas, the stories are as colorful as they get. From a 15th century samurai sword to a Picasso painting, there isn’t much Rick hasn’t seen or heard, inevitably making him an expert in rare collectables. First he must carefully appraise the worth of each item, determine if it's real or fake and then reveal the often surprising answer to "What's it worth?"

Steve Schirripa "Face The Ace" Host - Premieres Aug 1 at 9 PM PT/ET NBC
Steve Schirripa is the host of NBC’s exciting new reality poker game show, “Face the Ace,” where amateurs play against world-class poker players in a heads-up, no limit hold’em poker for a chance to win $1 million. Schirripa was born in Brooklyn, NY - a city noted more for the “mob” stereotype. But stereotypes, like a wise guy’s alibi, can be misleading. A series regular on David Chase’s acclaimed HBO drama “The Sopranos”, the Brooklyn College graduate’s acting odyssey began while working at a hotel on the Las Vegas strip. Once the entertainment director of The Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Schirripa worked with such comedians as Drew Carey, Kevin Pollack and Bruce Baum. His cameo roles in their comedy specials led to episodic work on the big and small screen, with Schirripa continually appearing in more productions. Over the past few years, Schirripa has guest starred on “Ugly Betty,” “Joey,” “Enterprise,” “Law & Order,” “My Wife and Kids,” “Ed,” “The George Lopez Show” and “The King of Queens.” As a regular popular guest on the talk show circuit, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” approached Schirripa to be a special correspondent; to date he has appeared on the show over a dozen times. He is also a correspondent for “The Today Show,” and a regular film critic on “The Showbiz Show.” Schirripa has been a guest on the following shows; “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Good Morning America,” “The View,” “Good Day Live,” “Fox and Friends,” “Best Damn Sports Show Period,” “Last Call with Carson Daly,” “Jimmy Kimmel,” “The Late Late Show,” “Imus” and several other national and regional programs. He was also the host of Spike TV’s series “Casino Cinema.” Schirripa’s big screen credentials are as formidable as his portrayal of Bobby Bacala. He recently won best supporting actor in the New York Independent Film Festival for his role in “What Are The Odds,” and also stars in “Duane Hopwood,”which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Schirripa can be seen in the Newline feature film “High Roller.” He played memorable characters in “Monday Night Mayhem” with John Turturro, with David Spade in “Meet Joe Dirt” and with David Arquette in “See Spot Run.” Schirripa also appeared in “Detroit Rock City, Flintstones-Viva Rock Vegas”, Martin Scorsese’s “Casino” and Terry Gilliam’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” He recently lent his voice to Sony Pictures animated film “Open Season 2.” Schirripa will next star in “The Hungry Ghosts,” directed by his Sopranos’ cast mate Michael Imperioli. The film and Schrripa’s work has gotten much critical praise. Jason Guerrasio of Filmmaker Magazine says “The Hungry Ghost” is a “gripping...an impressive debut film that offers an uncompromising look at the complexities of life and the redemptive qualities we need to get through it…Steve Schirripa gives a remarkable performance.” Schirripa can also add published writer to his list of credits. The National Bestseller, A “Goomba’s Guide to Life” published by Clarkson Potter, is his first in a series of three Goomba guidebooks. This comical book co-written by Charles Fleming, includes chapters on growing up in Brooklyn, great Goomba’s in history, and goomba’s Do’s and Don’t. His second book “The Goomba’s Book of Love” and his third “The Goomba Diet” are currently in stores. With the popularity of the Goomba series, Schirripa was asked to write Goomba books for young adults, the first entitled “Nicky Duece: Welcome to the Family,” which was followed up by “Nicky Duece: Home for the Holidays.” Because of the book’s success, Nickelodeon optioned the NICKY book idea, and is currently in pre-production on transforming the book into a film. Schirripa is attached as an executive producer and actor to the project. Schirripa recently appeared as a guest judge on the 6th season of the hit NBC show “Last Comic Standing” and he is currently starring on the hit family series, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

Dr Harold Katz "America's Bad Breath Doctor"
Dr. Harold Katz, founder of The California Breath Clinics, is the recognized expert in the fields of bad breath, tonsil stones, and dry mouth. Known as the 'Bad Breath Guru' from his numerous television appearances on shows like The View and the CBS Early Show, he has helped millions of people around the world eliminate their bad breath problems.Dr. Katz is a graduate of UCLA and the UCLA School of Dentistry and holder of a separate degree in Bacteriology, also from UCLA. In the 1970s he established a thriving dental practice in Beverly Hills, California, minutes from bustling 20th Century Fox Studios. There, he perfected his techniques while working with some of Hollywood's biggest rising stars. Dr. Katz began his own breakthrough research into the causes of Bad Breath in the early 1990s, after he was unable to help his own teenage daughter with her severe and chronic breath problem. Highly advertised commercial mouthwashes were making her breath more offensive, and despite immaculate oral hygiene (brushing 5-6 times daily with the most popular toothpastes & flossing several times a day), the problem persisted. His background in Bacteriology assisted him in realizing that Bad Breath is caused by a group of Anaerobic Sulfur-Producing Bacteria which breed WITHIN the tongue's surface and throat. Under certain conditions, these bacteria initiate the production of the Volatile Sulfur Compounds found in Bad Breath and Taste Disorders. Bad Breath DOES NOT come from the digestive system, as some highly advertised products falsely claim.Armed with this knowledge, Dr. Katz began to experiment with new formulas that would attack the Anaerobic Sulfur-Producing Bacteria within the mouth. In 1993 he founded the internationally acclaimed California Breath Clinics, where he treated and continued to study patients with chronic breath problems, tonsil stones, and other troublesome oral care issues that did not have simple, effective over the counter treatments. The resulting products - refined over and over since their introduction - are nothing short of astonishing. Clinical tests of Dr. Katzs' patients have repeatedly resulted in a complete elimination of over 98% of the Volatile Sulfur Compounds that cause bad breath within the mouth. In 2002, Dr. Katz published his breakthrough Bad Breath Bible, the definitive guide to the causes and cures of most bad breath and unpleasant mouth taste problems. The guide has gone on to dozens of re-prints and is now in it's second edition, with over 1,000,000 copies in print.Since the introduction of TheraBreath products in 1994, no one has helped more people fight Bad Breath than Dr. Katz -- tens of thousands have been successfully treated through his California Breath Clinics in the US and internationally, and over ONE MILLION PEOPLE worldwide have used his TheraBreath System formulas to eliminate Halitosis and regain their lost confidence.

Christian E. Barth - "Origins of Infamy"
Based on a true story, The Origins of Infamy tells of Ted Bundy's alleged involvement in the murder of two coeds at the Jersey Shore on Memorial Day 1969. Speaking to his biographer on the eve of his execution, Bundy is offered the chance of clemency in exchange for a confession to his involvement in the unsolved deaths. Before learning what transpired that weekend two decades earlier, journalist Richard Larsen, author of The Deliberate Stranger, is led on a psychological journey through the condemned murderer's past. From Bundy's own voice, Larsen learns the root causes motivating him to become America's most notorious serial killer. Beginning on Death Row at Florida State Penitentiary, then traveling back in time to Seattle, Philadelphia, New York City, and Ocean City, New Jersey, The Origins of Infamy vividly recreates a historical account of New Jersey's most famous cold case.

Andy Kim -Singer/Composer/performer

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Youakim left his home for New York to pursue a career in music. Back home he worked on his music and in 1968 under the stage name Andy Kim, released the single "How'd We Ever Get This Way?" on the Steed label. That record just missed the U.S. Top 20. In 1969, Kim had two hit singles, "Rainbow Ride," which made the U.S. Top 50, and "Baby, I Love You," which got to #9 and was popular enough in Canada to earn him a Juno Award as his country's "Top Male Vocalist." That same year, with Jeff Barry, Kim co-wrote "Sugar, Sugar" which was a hit single for The Archies, reaching No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and ultimately becoming the RIAA Record of the Year. Kim/Barry wrote more songs for the Archies, and also for Changes, by The Monkees in 1970, which Barry produced. Over the next few years, Kim recorded a few minor hits (such as "Be My Baby" in late 1970) and toured North America extensively. In the spring of 1974, he released "Rock Me Gently", which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and rose to #2 on the UK Singles Chart. By the end of 1976, Kim stopped recording and disappeared from public life. He returned under the stage name 'Baron Longfellow' with a self-titled album Baron Longfellow in 1980 and, also under the same pseudonym, in 1984 released Prisoner by Design. Both of these albums met with moderate success. In 1991, Kim again went by the name 'Longfellow' and recorded the single "Powerdrive", which received radio airplay on several radio stations across Canada.
In 1995, Kim played at the Kumbaya Festival at which the
Barenaked Ladies were also performing. Nearly a decade later, the band's Ed Robertson convinced Kim to come out of retirement.[1][2] Robertson co-wrote the song "I Forgot to Mention" with him and offered to produce the track. The single was released on a 5-track EP in 2004 which included a re-recording of "Powerdrive".

Karna Small Bodman "Final Finesse"
Romance fans will best appreciate the third near-future political thriller (after Checkmate and Gambit) from Bodman, a former Reagan deputy press secretary and NSC senior director. When a natural-gas pipeline explosion in Oklahoma kills one and leaves thousands without heat during a cold snap, Samantha Reid, the attractive Deputy Assistant to the President for Homeland Security, gets on the case. More pipeline explosions follow. In the course of her investigations, Reid falls hard and fast for Tripp Adams, a vice president of GeoGlobal Oil & Gas, the pipelines' owner. After Adams disappears in Venezuela, Reid abandons her post without permission to move heaven and earth to find him, earning the dubious distinction of being the first senior White House staff member to become completely unreachable. That Samantha tends to rely on her physical charms in her rescue efforts may dismay those who believe such tactics are unworthy of a high U.S. government official. The Honorable Karna Small Bodman served in the White House for six years. She was also on the air for fifteen years as a reporter, television news anchor, and political commentator in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York City.

Senior Pastor Bill Hybels - "Willow Creek Church"

public trust in its leaders has deteriorated over the past year, according to a March 2009 McKinsey Quarterly survey. The public trust has been violated from leaders in multiple sectors of life - financial, government, business and more. People are looking for leaders with integrity they can trust, and the solution to this problem is the restoration of public trust through credible, faith-based leadership. Now, a record number of business and church leaders are set to attend The Leadership Summit 2009, a two-day leadership development conference held at Willow Creek Community Church's South Barrington, Ill., campus, and broadcast live throughout North America, and eventually, 56 countries. Willow Creek Association is welcoming a record 60,000 business and church leaders August 6 and 7 to more than 200 satellite locations in North America, and eventually 40,000 additional people in other countries. Karrine Steffans - "The Vixen Manual: How to Find, Seduce and Keep the Man you Want."
In August 2008, Karrine turned thirty and can't believe all she has accomplished in such a short amount of time and looks forward to leaving the uncertainty of her twenties behind and welcoming a new era. With all that goes on in Karrine's business life, still, she insists on being a mother first and finds loves and strength in the support of her family. Working from home allows her the luxuries of being successful both as a literary figure and as a parent and she wouldn't have it any other way. Karrine Steffans is living proof that change is good and confession is good for the soul but she is, most importantly, a testament to the old adage; to whom much is given, much is required and her own adage, just because you may have started off wrong, doesn't mean you won't end up right.

Andrew Chaikin "Voices from the Moon: Apollo Astronauts Their Lunar Experiences "
Andrew Chaikin’s A Man on the Moon is considered the definitive history of the Apollo moon missions—arguably the pinnacle of human experience. Now, using never-before-published quotes taken from his in-depth interviews with twenty-three of the twenty-four Apollo lunar astronauts, Chaikin and his collaborator, Victoria Kohl, have created an extraordinary account of the lunar missions. In Voices from the Moon the astronauts vividly recount their experiences in intimate detail; their distinct personalities and remarkably varied perspectives emerge from their candid and deeply personal reflections. Carefully assembled into a narrative that reflects the entire arc of the lunar journey, Voices from the Moon captures the magnificence of the Apollo program like no other book. Paired with their own words are 160 images taken from NASA’s new high-resolution scans of the photos the astronauts took during the missions. Many of the photos, which are reproduced with stunning and unprecedented detail, have rarely—if ever—been seen by the general public. Voices from the Moon is an utterly unique chronicle of these defining moments in human history. Andrew Chaikin is the author of several other books about space. He is a commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition and has appeared on Good Morning America, Nightline, Fresh Air, and Talk of the Nation.

Jeffrey Bennett - "Beyond UFOs: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and Its Astonishing Implications for Our Future" - "With the possible exception of the God question, I can think of no subject that has inspired such wide-eyed wonder and speculation as the matter of whether or not we are alone in the cosmos. The search for extraterrestrial intelligence today has almost theological status in terms of its implications, and yet it is a rigorous science conducted by world-class scientists. Jeffrey Bennett's book is one of the finest primers on this burgeoning new field. And even though this can be a technically daunting science, Bennett's highly readable prose invites everyone into the dome to gaze through the telescope to have a look for themselves, for this is a journey we are all on together."--Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic and columnist for Scientific American. Heidi Murkoff "Boxers or Briefs"?
Heidi Murkoff conceived the idea for What to Expect When You're Expecting during her first pregnancy, when she discovered that most books only added to her questions and worries. Determined to write a guide that would help expectant parents sleep better at night, Heidi delivered the proposal for What to Expect just hours before delivering her daughter, Emma. She teamed up with medical writer Arlene Eisenberg and Sandee Hathaway, BSN, to write what has been called the pregnancy bible, with almost 16 million copies in print. In fact, according to USA Today, 93 percent of all expectant mothers who read a pregnancy guide read What to Expect When You're Expecting, now in its fourth edition. Heidi went on to write an entire bookshelf of titles dedicated to helping parents learn what to expect. The What to Expect series, which has sold more than 31 million copies, includes What to Expect the First Year, What to Expect the Toddler Years, the What to Expect Pregnancy Organizer, the What to Expect Pregnancy Planner, and the What to Expect Babysitter's Handbook. Her latest book — What to Expect: Eating Well When You're Expecting — is a complete guide to diet and nutrition during pregnancy. She's also written nine What to Expect books for children, designed to hold their hands as they venture off to face life's first experiences. The What to Expect Kids series includes What to Expect When Mommy's Having a Baby and What to Expect When the New Baby Comes Home. A passionate commitment to parents and babies led Heidi to cofound the What to Expect Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income families expect healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, and healthy, happy babies. As president of the foundation, Heidi helped create Baby Basics: Your Month by Month Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy, a beautiful, culturally appropriate prenatal guide geared toward readers with low literacy. So far, more than 300,000 copies of Baby Basics, in English and Spanish, have been distributed free to expectant moms in need across the country. Heidi is a senior contributing editor and columnist for Baby Talk and Parenting magazines and is a frequent guest on CNN, the Today show, the CBS Early Show, and Good Morning America. Now, with the launch of WhatToExpect.com and its e-mail newsletters, Heidi has created a complete interactive online pregnancy companion for expectant parents, as well as a vital pipeline of information for those who are preparing for pregnancy. Heidi and her husband, Erik, have two children and live in Southern California.

Brian Schwartz "50 Interviews : Entrepreneurs "
There are two types of people in this world; those who ponder and those who act. This book showcases the latter, showing us that with enough desire and persistence, anything is possible. The progress of our society depends on those who act and this book is a celebration of their contributions. Through the process of interviewing, a truth emerges as to why some people act and others don t. Their answers offer real life wisdom, insight, and an honest glimpse into the mindset of a true entrepreneur. Readers will explore the perspectives of ordinary men and women who took destiny into their own hands and pursued their entrepreneurial stirrings. These entrepreneurs are living proof that anyone can create something from nothing. They inspire us to discover and follow our own versions of the American dream. They teach us that failure is the pathway to success, a burning passion the essential fuel, and having a purpose bigger than ourselves leads to true fulfillment. Well known entrepreneurs featured in the book include; Michael Gerber of E-Myth, Greg Stroh of Izze Beverage, Tom Frey of The DaVinci Institute, Rob McNealy of Startup Story Radio, and David Wood of Solutionbox.com. Over a span of 13 years, Brian Schwartz worked for a half a dozen technology startups and large corporations moving around the country to advance his career. Living through many acquisitions, layoffs, and no fewer than 10 different managers along the way, life had lost meaning to him. What remained was a general feeling of dissatisfaction and lack of fulfillment. In 2007, seeking answers, he discovered a transformational course that served as the catalyst he needed for change. What he learned that weekend was what he had thought were his values and priorities were in fact those of others. He began to reinvent himself and live a life more aligned with his true self making positive changes including quitting his high stress six figure job. Through the 50 interviews project, he discovered that the right questions bring amazing clarity to life when we seek our own answers. That as our own truth emerges, we discover we are more powerful than we realized. Brian s new found passion is to empower others to realize that we each have a unique ability to make an impact in the world and we owe it to ourselves and the world to follow our inspired thoughts through to action. Brian Schwartz grew up in Northern California and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Technology. Brian currently lives in Northern Colorado with his wife. Brian is an energetic writer, passionate speaker and workshop facilitator, and open to just about anything he can do to help others adopt the 50 interviews framework for themselves.

Dr. Susan Kellogg-Spadt - Co-Founder Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute of Phil
How important is a healthy sex life? Well, according to a new survey, it ranks higher on many women’s priority lists than career satisfaction, home ownership, traveling or even an active social life. Although a healthy sex life is important for women, achieving it may be difficult for some. Among the women surveyed, 70% said they experienced a sexual health issue in the past year, which negatively impacted their overall health and well-being. And while many of these women claim they are comfortable talking to a health care provider about this issue, less than one-fifth (18%) actually visited their doctor about their problem.

David Zuchowski - VP National Sales of Hyundai
On June 24, 2009, President Obama signed legislation known formally as the “Car Allowance Rebate System” (CARS) providing a $3,500 to $4,500 cash rebate when trading in an old gas guzzler for a new more fuel efficient model. And while the final details of the program and full benefits will not be available until July 24, Hyundai is accelerating its implementation by several weeks by backing dealerships with short-term cash advances -- making it the first auto maker to officially launch what has become affectionately known as the “Cash for Clunkers” program. Specifically, the government program offers $4,500 back on the purchase or lease of new vehicles that achieve 10 miles per gallon more than a trade-in car, or five miles per gallon or more than a trade-in light truck. Consumers can receive $3,500 for new vehicles that achieve between 4 to 9 miles per gallon more than a trade-in car, or 2 to 4 miles per gallon more than a trade-in light truck. According to Hyundai’s research in May as much as 11% of consumers – or 100,000 potential new car buyers – surveyed indicated they were delaying the purchase of a new car until the new legislation was enacted. The company launched the program now to get a jump on the competition, and is banking on the successes reported from similar programs in Europe and South America that fueled a dramatic increase in car sales. For example, the UK’s version has boosted orders for new cars by 60,000, helping to reduce the effects of the economic downturn which have dented demand. Additionally, “scrappage” programs in Western Europe have led to 500,000 additional passenger vehicles sold in the region from January through May 2009, according to recent analysis by R. L. Polk & Co.

Alex Alston / James Dickerson - Devil's Sanctuary"
Lynchings, beatings, arson, denial of rights, false imprisonment--the civil rights era brought attention to these heinous offenses that were the status quo for African Americans in many areas of the country. And no state was more notorious as a sanctuary for the murderers and perpetrators of hate crimes than Mississippi. In 1956 state lawmakers installed the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission to preserve segregation and “Mississippi Values” by declaring the state outside the jurisdiction of the federal government. Under the auspices of the governor and lieutenant governor, the commission joined forces with groups such as the White Citizens’ Councils, which would stop at nothing in their quest for white supremacy.
Alex A. Alston Jr. is a past president of the Mississippi Bar Association who has taught and written extensively on issues of trial advocacy. James L. Dickerson is a journalist, a social worker, and the author of Goin’ Back to Memphis and That’s Alright, Elvis.

FLASHBACK - Frank Sinatra "Summer Wind"
"Summer Wind" is a 1965 song, with music by
Henry Mayer and lyrics by Johnny Mercer. A cool, nostalgic tale of a fleeting romance, it is most known for a 1966 recording by Frank Sinatra that is informed by what NPR called "a majestic sadness." It is largely forgotten that singer Wayne Newton had the first national chart hit (1965).[1] The Sinatra version originally appeared on his Strangers in the Night album, and hit number one on Billboard magazine's Easy Listening survey. By the 2000s, it was one of Sinatra's most-used recordings in various contexts, including a mid-2000s television ad campaign for Mastercard and Major League Baseball. Also in the 2000s it became a hit for crooner Michael Bublé, recording an arrangement with long-time producer and collaborator David Foster, who heralds it as one of the all time greatest jazz standards ever written. In 1974, author Johnny Mercer recorded the song for his album My Huckleberry Friend. Lyle Lovett's version was featured in the 1999 Sam Raimi film For Love Of The Game. It was also released on Lovett's 2003 album Smile: Songs From The Movies. It was featured on the film The Pope of Greenwich Village and on the 2003 film Matchstick Men. In 2004, Irish boyband Westlife covered the song on their Rat Pack-inspired album Allow Us To Be Frank. The song can also be found in the sixth season première episode of The Simpsons, "Bart of Darkness", sung by Martin Prince at the end of the show, after his swimming trunks were pulled down and he is abandoned by his new-found friends.
On Friday

When the station switched back to CBS-FM on Thursday, July 12, 2007, Jack FM's last song, "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey was interrupted mid-song at 12:43pm EST, and what continued with CBS-FM's broadcast of Sinatra's rendition of "Summer Wind".
