Janet Little  "Detox For the New Year"  - Henry's  Market
Nutritionist for Henry's Farmers Market, Janet Little CN, share her tips and favorite products for a springtime detoxifying cleanse.   Springtime is my favorite time of year; longer daylight hours, burgeoning flowers, and some internal spring-cleaning. What do I mean by internal spring-cleaning?  Detoxifying !

Henry's Farmers Market is on ... Although most people think of a detox at the beginning of the year, springtime is actually the best time for a cleansing program. During spring, we are outside more in fresh air and becoming more active than we typically are in the winter. Plus, spring brings with it a variety of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables that help our bodies with the detoxification process.   First, and most importantly, you need to be cautious before going on a detoxification program. Check with your doctor first, especially if you are overweight, if you are on any type of medication, if you have blood sugar problems or any other health problems. Our liver is the master cleanser. Did you know that our livers perform over 400 different functions in our bodies, and that almost 2 quarts of blood pass through our liver for detoxification every minute? The liver filters blood to remove toxins, secretes bile full of cholesterol and other fat-soluble toxins, and the liver disassembles unwanted chemicals.  It's a 2-step process in which the liver performs these functions. In phase I, a group of enzymes in the liver, P450, neutralizes some chemicals, and converts others to a more chemically active and toxic form. In phase II detoxification, these active toxic compounds are then neutralized and excreted out of the body.

Brad Staggs - Home Improvement Expert (HGTV)
An improving economy is boosting optimism in the home building industry as the largest showcase for home products, innovations and trends gets underway at the annual International Builders’ Show on January 19th. Home improvement expert Brad Staggs has been a regular at the show, and 2010 is no exception. He’ll be available on Monday, January 18th for a sneak peek of some of the products and trends consumers can expect in the new year. “There is reason for lots of excitement,” Brad notes. “Green building is really taking off, and there are so many exciting new innovations and tools for remodeling. I think it’s going to be a very good year for the industry - as well as homeowners and apartment dwellers.” Brad Staggs has become a regular on shows around the country and the internet. From his daily appearances on the DIY Network as host of Talk2diy Home Improvement to his reports on HGTV and his guest spots on Weekend Today, Brad comes across as knowledgeable, real, and relatable. When HGTV launched, Brad began producing and hosting features for Decorating with Style and Today at Home. If it was about home improvement, Brad was all over it. He even tackled a few design projects on the shows. He quickly became known as HGTV’s Home Maintenance Expert on Today at Home. Brad is also on HGTVPro.Com Weekly every week Although home improvement is Brad Staggs' main game, his lifelong interest in magic serves him well as he conjures up expert advice on home repair and remodeling for a number of DIY Network and HGTV home-repair series. Brad's expertise, complemented by a healthy dose of humor and enthusiasm, stems from years of hands-on experience in the field. Even as a young boy, he helped his dad with weekend projects and played "gofer" at various construction sites. Brad is certainly no stranger to broadcasting. His credentials include hosting and producing country music magazine programs as well as travel, cooking and game shows (and an acting stint on NBC's daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives). When HGTV launched in 1994, Brad was back on the air as the home-maintenance expert on Today at Home. Brad now shares his home improvement knowledge with everyone that tunes in to Be Your Own Contractor and Talk2DIY Home Improvement on DIY, as well as semi-regular appearances on NBC's Today Show.
